STEP 2: Start Right
You don't have to be a pro at every program to quickly and effectively make a profitable site:
Like anything else, you need the right tools. Don't go wasting endless hours or taking classes to learn the standard web design programs, thinking they are the only way. There are many programs that cost hundred less and are actually just as powerful, yet so much easier to learn and user intuitive. I suggest checking out: IntraWiz.com and ForwardName.com. All of their software is only $6 and they are all equivalent to programs costing hundreds more.

STEP 3: Layout is Crucial
There are many ways to layout the design for your site, but when choosing a layout keep these things in mind:
- Make site easy to maneuver and navigate by keeping section links on top or left hand side.
- Make layout and design relevant to site function
- Use tables to keep content organized
- Keep layout simple or you may loose visitors with a busy page
-
Plan your site ahead and get your ideas down on paper.

STEP 4: Design for Effectiveness
Effective Web Design means that your site does what it is suppose to, and if it doesn't it may explain lack of success:
-
You don't always have to make the most eye-catching site to have an effective site. A simple design and logo may be more effective
-
Choose colors that appeal to the senses. Like dressing sharp, choose 2-3 colors that co-ordinate well and base your site and logo on those colors exclusively.
-
Use as much text in your page as possible in the place of images. Your page will load faster and visitors will stay longer
-
Make your site interactive and give a reason for users to return. Forums, message boards, chat rooms, polls, video content and online game are a great way to keep visitors tuned in.
-
Make life simple. Get users to contribute content or use RSS feeds to update your site daily with fresh content. This will help your search engine rankings as search engines love to read and cache updated pages.
-
Stick with Arial or Verdana fonts sized 9 or 10 for text as they are most attractive and universal
- For auto generated WordPress or Blog content I suggest: IntraWiz.com
- For cool and interactive site content I suggest: WidgetBox.com

STEP 5: Make Your Web Site Search Engine Friendly
It is pointless to create a web site if no one can find you through search engines. Search engine optimizing your site is more important than actual "design" as a site that may not look that great can out still out rank all others if it is search engine optimized well. Otherwise you will spend tons on advertising.
-
Enter as much relevant written content in your pages as you can and submit your updated pages regularly.
-
Add meta tags, description and image tags with keywords relevant to your site
-
Use text instead of images wherever possible including logo if you can get away with it.
-
Use HTML or PHP pages, never full Flash pages
-
Have as many sites link to you as possible to create high link popularity. This is called back linking.
-
Choose a domain name with your sites most relevant keywords in it. .com extensions outrank all others on Yahoo, Google
STEP 6: Googlize and Monetize Your Site
It's great to make a site for fun or hobby, but it's even better to make revenue from your web site's traffic. Google offers the best way to monetize your sites traffic.
- Sign up for Google Adsense program to start
- Add Google's search bar and adsense ads to your site to add more function and make revenue from your traffic
- Visit Googlest.com to get the list of highest paying keywords in the Adsense program
